Printed Jeans – Are You A Snake Or A Leopard?

Leopard print designer jeansSnake print designer jeansIf you haven’t yet latched onto this season’s animal print jeans trend then it’s time to make the tough decision…

Are you a snake or are you a leopard?

Sinuous scales or sophisticated spots?

Both go perfectly with skinny jeans, which can be paired with a silk tee and statement heels for a cocktail party or dressed down for day wear.

The secret to styling these jeans for elegance rather than overkill, is to keep tops and shoes plain and simple – let the jeans be the focus of your look… and don’t mix your animals!

Equipment – The Silk Shirt Style Staple

Equipment silk shirt in leopardA wardrobe staple that looks just as good on a chic sixty year old as on a cool sixteen year old, Equipment’s range of impeccable silk shirts is one of the fashion insider’s best kept secrets.

The designer fashion label was originally launched back in 1976, when Christian Restoin, husband of French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, and inspired by classic stars such as Katherine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall, saw a need for simple tailored men’s shirts adapted for women, for a sexy understated chic.

The iconic Equipment label has recently been re-launched from LA by Serge Azria, who saw that the time was right to revisit the timeless chic lines of the silk shirt. To his surprise in only one year the new look Equipment has rocketed to immediate success with a cult following snapping up the shirts off the shelves as fast as they can be re-stocked.

An essential timeless piece is the classic white silk shirt, or go wild with the leopard print sheer silky Equipment shirt.

IRO – Parisian Chic

IRO - autumn/winter 2011Paris fashion is synonymous with haute couture, resonating with world-famous, big names from Dior to Givenchy. But there is also an up and coming bunch of young, accessible Paris designers, bringing streetwise fashion to the hip crowd. IRO is one of our best.

Design duo, brothers Arik and Laurent Bitton, started their careers as rock musicians in New York. Returning to their native France in 2004, they brought with them an appreciation of New York street fashion. They have managed to combine street style with Parisian chic in a way that has caught the attention of many celebrities, finally winning the ultimate seal of approval of an order directly from Kate Moss for their Kilav t-shirt.

Slouchy T shirts in luxurious materials, sexy jackets and gorgeous knits are the hallmark of the brand, and are being snapped up for their effortless casual chic. What’s not to love about Paris fashion with an affordable price tag!

If you can’t make to to Paris to browse an IRO store, look for an exciting selection of IRO designer fashion on ShopLabel, the online designer label store based in South Africa.

Jewellery Design With Natural Style

Alex Monroe JewelleryJewellery designer Alex Monroe has hardly ever been out of the glossy magazine headlines, since winning Designer of the Year award in 2008. His delicate nature-inspired jewellery has won over the fashion crowd young and old – grabbing regular spots in Vogue, Elle, Harpars Bazaar, Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan.

Simplicity and natural beauty are the keynotes of his pieces, the bumble bee  pendant perhaps being the most recognizable and the one to catch the imagination. Other themes we love are the feathers that are so lifelike, you’d swear they would blow away in the wind, and the daisies with their eternal charm.

One thing is for sure, these pieces all have exquisite craftsmanship and inspired design, so  they make a great investment as well as a style statement.

You can find the pieces directly at the Alex Monroe website, or if you’re in South Africa find a selection of Alex Monroe pieces at ShopLabel the online designer fashion store.

ACNE Cool Designer Fashion

Acne designer fashionHip, urban and understated, Acne was the fashion insider’s best kept secret until recently. With their denim collaboration with Lanvin in 2009 and the opening of their London store in 2010, the secret is out and many more are clamouring for their sleek and minimal separates.

Their name is an acronym, standing for  ‘Ambition to Create Novel Expression’ and the company began as a creative consultancy in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1996. From the beginning it was more about design for living and creating a lifestyle brand, and it was almost by accident that fashion became a major part of their success. It all started with 100 pairs of unisex raw denim jeans with distinctive red stitching being designed and given out to clients friends and family as a promotional move. These caught the imagination of Swedish Elle and soon they were in demand from top boutiques around Sweden. Acne followed up by designing a full collection of cool understated pieces in 1998.

Acne designer fashionCo-founder and creative director Jonny Johansson is the charismatic figure behind the brand. Despite the success of his men’s and women’s fashion lines, his design concepts and inspiration are not confined or limited within the fashion world. Acne also embraces a film company, an ultra-cool magazine Acne Paper, with articles from top names in the fashion world, and even a line of children’s toys, and recently branched out into furniture design, one of his original metiers. With a finger on the pulse of the times, Johansson manages to gauge the mood perfectly, injecting his designs with just enough quirkiness to make them recognisable, while still retaining that classic tailored elegance that forms the backbone of any fashion wardrobe.

“I focus on designing clothes that give good energy to the wearer,” says Johansson. “Our view on fashion is playful and relaxed. If I could design something that people can have a long-term relationship with, I would be very happy, I want to design a garment that makes you feel stronger and more self-confident.”

Acne’s POP Classic lines, which include their signature denim, bomber jackets and streetwise fashion, have been joined by their trend-setting, up-market and fashion-forward collections, which in 2010 took the concept of spirituality as their inspiration, with flowing drapery and crystals creating a completely different silhouette from their previous crisp lines and harder edge. Each collection showcases a new concept – for concepts are what drive Acne –sometimes classic, sometimes odd ball but always cutting edge.
